Ken Dewar
“The type of work I do always tries to reflect the higher nobility that is found in the human disposition. Imagination, humor, sacrifice, compassion and even music have become important elements that I have attempted to incorporate into all the work that I do.” Ken Dewar was born in Cold Lake, Alberta on June 17, 1960. His father was in the military so they moved from base to base, finally settling down in Red Deer. Ken graduated from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 1984, and set up shop in Calgary soon after. He worked as a professional Illustrator for the past 21 years, with numerous advertising and editorial accounts both locally and internationally. About seven years ago Ken made the decision to start on a body of work that he had been developing philosophically for the last couple of decades and his hope was to expand this series into galleries. For the last six years, Ken has also taught at the Alberta College of Art and Design as a sessional Instructor. He has taught illustration reps in Toronto (Three in a Box) to handle his advertising work, and an art publisher in Edmonton (Fish Creek Military Prints) to handle his military and historical paintings. And now Artists of the World is proud to present Ken’s fantasy and gallery paintings. Ken’s art is drawn from a deep and honest curiosity about people in general. As he explains in his own words: “Whether it is the whimsical fantasy world of the romantic Victorian era or more serious themes, it is all based on my belief that we are all here to experience humanity. To try and show humanity at its best is my passion; also, to try and be versatile in whatever art you choose has always been my philosophy.”
